Why are the Christians parts of Lebanon generally better than the Muslim parts?
Batroun, Jbeil, Jezzine, E. Beirut etc.. first world towns.
(I have a few theories of my own but let’s hear yours please)
(Dont take offence anyone, this is just a rational,critical assessment)
It’s an uncomfortable question, I know, easy to get emotional, but I know we all noticed this. It’s obvious, but nobody speaks about it publicly.
We do quietly.

Uneducated/blind guesses:
- Christians were there first and those who stayed kept the "best" parts.
- Fewer Christians means more solidarity through favorable terms of trade.
- Sampling effect: larger Muslim regions means a larger sub-group of underdeveloped regions.
@Nabil_Alouani_
It’s not that they took the best parts, you could go to any area and when the city becomes nicer, tidier, better architecture, more fun, you know you’re in a Christian part. They could be just next to a Muslim part..
@Omar_ghxd
Two of the main points that i can think of:
- missionary schools which have brought western ideologies and improved education, which automatically refines QOL
-muslim parties have adopted leftist ideologies in the past which has set their loyalty to foreign causes/entities
@Omar_ghxd
There are Muslims from Batroun and every other place you mentioned… also these places are all major tourist spots and if that’s a pic of Tripoli you posted we all know that area is a dump because of poverty and what comes with that
@Omar_ghxd
Higher rates of emigration play a role big tbh.
My village in Lebanon is very nice & proper with many nice villas, well-maintained public facilities, etc. bc of a high emigration & education rate.
My mom’s village, though, is poorer & more dense, has fewer orange roofs, less-
@Omar_ghxd
- Christian values that align with personal freedom hence capitalism.
-Missionary schools played a role in providing education that helps in development.
- High rates of emigration that brought in money and ideas
Regardless i believe that muslim areas will improve with time.
