Question: How many of you look at the list of other books in the NYRB series at the end of each book. Have you discovered books you've later pursued there? Do you spend time mulling over it? It might surprise you to know we spend quite some time assembling these.

In 2013 I stayed up real late and got really high and recognized a theme. I also thought it wasn't done by a person, but I had suddenly discovered mainlining the universe's truth. Then I woke up and, in the morning, realized that I was full of shit. Thanks for you work!

I think of this as a timeless tradition! I wish more publishers did it. It’s how I discovered L.J. Davis’ ‘A Meaningful Life’ (liked the title), later found it at Greenlight when I was visiting Brooklyn—read it, & decided I shouldn’t move to Brooklyn!

I would say just choose four titles and give synopses like old trade paperbacks would, otherwise it's too overwhelming and you only look for the familiar

All the time, especially in bookstores. In a way, it is how I judge the quality of the bookstore - - I search for titles on the list of a random NYRB book to see if any are being carried in the store. As one might expect, indies fare far better than chains in this regard.
