I have a child with speech apraxia. He was 9 when all the mask BS started. He had only been spontaneously speaking for 4 years at that point. He still spoke softly, slowly, and deliberately. It was hard to hear him. He was terrified of having to communicate1/

2/through a mask. I promised him I wouldn’t wear one and neither would he. That meant we got kicked out of public places often, and yelled at by strangers.

3/when I think back at his speech therapy, and how his speech pathologist had to physically touch his mouth and help him form words, and how he intently watched our mouths,

4/I wonder how many other children with speech apraxia missed out on crucial services, and their development is stunted over masked therapy and not being properly guided.

@nicolle99953150 I’m sorry. My 9yr old has selective mutism and autism. It took her a few years to understand facial expressions. She was in therapy when Covid hit and her therapist abandoned us then said she’d only see her a year later fully masked even though she knew how detrimental.

@nicolle99953150 I said this exact thing. My 👧🏻 also has Speech apraxia. Thankfully she was speaking by the time Covid hit. I also remember the hours of speech therapy with the mouth cueing. The children and parents working to give their children speech. This was a crime. #CrimesAgainstChildren
