All my nieces and nephews must have a drivers licenses before they turn 18. I don’t understand how there’s so many adults that don’t know how to or aren’t permitted to drive. Not having a car is one thing, not being able sounds disastrous to me ?
@mxmsworld
Are you paying for their lessons? 🙃 I unfortunately failed twice and didn't have the money to pay for anymore lessons. Living in London there's no need to drive and rents are expensive. I plan to learn again, but it's just not a priority 🤷🏾♀️
@mxmsworld
drivers ed being a few hundred $$$ + no one feeling like teaching you or willing to let you practice in their car + living in a big city with plenty of transportation + being a pretty passenger princess getting chauffeured everywhere
@mxmsworld
Key skill akin to riding a bike for me. Even if you don't have one, you should learn. The people I know who can't drive never leave London and can't do anything on strike days
@mxmsworld
Agree but it’s crazy getting a practical test booking now. My niece has been online every day for three months and can’t get one booked as they’re all taken 😭
@mxmsworld
I have paid for driving lessons for my nieces and nephews for their 18th (although it is mad expensive now though!). My mum got me an intensive driving course for my 18th and it was the best gift I could’ve got. I haven’t owned a car since I was 19 but like you said, being able..
@mxmsworld
I had to book a test 5 months in advance because that’s all there was, it took me 2 months to find an instructor and the cost? 💀 I hope things will be more organized/better when it’s time for you nieces and nephews because right now it’s a MESS
@mxmsworld
Completely agree. Even if you choose not to drive or live somewhere where it’s not absolutely necessary, it’s an essential life skill like learning to swim. If you can’t do either of those things you have failed at life.
@mxmsworld
Enough people have mentioned the real barrier of expenses, so I'll add the REAL advantage of learning to drive:
In addition to understanding cars, you become a better cyclist / pedestrian / all round road user
Tho, this scales with access to good (expensive?) Instructors
