Quarterback Jake Smithhart, who led Pearl to a 16-0 record and the MHSAA Class 6A state championship, has joined the Southern Miss team and had his first practice Tuesday. He was a student coach when first-year coach Will Hall asked him to join the team to help with depth at QB.
