Do not refer to Nawal as the “Simone de Beauvoir of the Arab world.” Do not call her that. She is the Nawal El Saadawi of the world. We are not local versions of white feminists.
The four times I met Dr. Nawal El Saadawi, she terrified and thrilled me. She spoke the truth and "the truth is savage and dangerous."
She was savage and dangerous, and feminism has to be savage and dangerous.
My new essay.

Also, who’s Simone de Beauvoir? People barely know who Gloria Steinem or Bella Abzug is, but we’re supposed to know an old French person?

Your article is such a powerful piece - like many others I wish I had known about her sooner. It often strikes now me that my feminism courses in literature were very, very white - I was not allowed to attend Spelman College for a semester to further my interest in black writers

But you are not an Arab version and Nawal was fighting against all religions and believers under cover of feminism which Me and few million of MEN enemies can’t categorize her as woman
