The first thing about stopping to be an alcoholic is to admit that the person is alcoholic.
Many alcoholics unfortunately are unable to get over it and therefore never change and get out of their vice and behaviour.

Yeah, should have stated more clearly. It is about when you have an addiction, the clear marker is when you don't show up. It could be gambling, drugs, etc

I agree with this, although I have known a couple carpenters that would start drinking at 10 am and we're some of the best carpenters I have ever seen.
But for the most part alcohol I find to be net negative in my life.
