Imagine: Angola, 10 am,
I am on the bus to the camp.
I see women carrying bananas on their heads.
While!!! Men mostly drink beer. 10 am!!!

This is endemic in Africa. I live in South Africa and see it all over. Many men have lost hope. It is a massive challenge. There are not enough jobs and people are taught to go to school and get a job. We need to help people wake up

I can't speak on the gender dynamics but I know here in the US people turn to substances, including unhealthy food, because it is an attainable goal. A $2 beer is much easier to attain than a car, or a nicer house.
Sure, being short sighted is a culprit, but it's more than that.

It's sad, but some people are more comfortable complaining than they are doing anything about it. It's also a problem of having an external focus of control vs internal.

My dad saw this in Cuba. They have no hope. They have food lines. But I have seen the lush countryside where they grow the food. There must be work and food there somewhere. 🤷♀️

One thing I've noticed in Madeira also.
A lot of people are chilling in the bars at 9 10 am.
And apparently, it is a struggle for locals to live here.…

To be honest most poor people can at least make little but they want it FREE
And they send their small children to ask for money so people will give them
