My Dad is a parcel delivery man. He's just sent me a video of the piles of parcels he had to deliver today - 176. Brought back covid-era reminiscence of just how crucial these people are, and how little thanked or respected they are with it.

I have been out with him on his round and honestly, it was like Postman Pat! The crack, the idle chat, the people who might not see anyone else, the knowing who to check in on. Felt more social good/service than business.

@michael_merrick That's 3 minutes a parcel for an 8 hour shift. That is 8 hours work without any brake AND presuming you start from leaving the sorting office straight to work. In flookin possible

@michael_merrick Ken Loach made an affecting movie about this subject - ("Sorry We Missed You?"). It was politically didactic for the Left, but still involving and well-made.

@MaryKenny4 Yes I remember it but I didn't watch it. What he does is hard work but also a reason for pride and gratitude not pity. He'd hate being patronised

@michael_merrick Important work but, as you say, not valued or respected. Made more precarious over the last couple of decades & seen as 'low skilled'. Well done Mr. M senior 👏👏👏

@michael_merrick I always try and give delivery people respect and thanks. During covid they were a lifeline.
