Brand will rightly be dropped like a stone, but the uncomfortable truth is a whole industry - indeed a whole culture - laughed this all off as edgy and transgressive, all the funnier for provoking the (often religious) prudes and bores. And still they lecture us.
Also the limits of 'consent' as a control mechanism. A predatory, manipulative man can destroy lives and insist all was consensual. And others can turn a blind eye because hey, it is consensual. A tragedy, yes, but consensual. Like that poor girl's mother, or that taxi driver.
Not good enough - consent is far too low and too legalistic a bar for regulating male sociosexuality, and the proving of it too fraught to ensure victims are ever served justice in the courtroom. This doesn't benefit women, nor (ultimately) men.
But then we have decided only the illegal is the forbidden and all else is just unfortunate. And creeps like this can continue with their BBC and Channel 4 and Hollywood chums.
