I was shot in the lower abdomen by a .45 caliber. By luck the bullet missed a major artery by millimeters & stopped before shattering my pelvis. Had the shooter picked a AR-15 I would likely be DEAD. Civilians should NOT have military grade weapons

...a .45 is heavier and travels much slower than .223/5.56...
...this is without getting into the type of ammunition used, e.g. ball ammo versus 'green tip' ammo...
@mia_tretta
Not everyone who is a survivor of gun violence agrees that the tool is the problem. Personally became a victim in 1984 and transitioned to survivor in the mid to late 90's.
Education, understanding and acceptance healed my non-physical wounds without mistreating anyone's rights.
@mia_tretta
I disagree on that one. Standard nato 5.56 bullets as used in assault rifles are made to shoot clean through.
Police ammo in a standard handgun is made to not penetrate, rather blow appart on impact and make huge amounts of damage.
While I am with you, this argument is wrong
@mia_tretta
Hey,
@mia_tretta
, I am disgusted that so many pro-shooters posting have missed the point that YOU SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN SHOT in the first place. They are arguing about “what ifs” rather than the real issue.
@mia_tretta
I hope you get better, but...do you not realize that .45 is a larger caliber than AR-15 rounds?
Had you been show with an AR-15, you'd likely be less harmed. AR-15s also aren't "military grade weapons" (ironically, .45s are via the 1911, too...)
@mia_tretta
That’s not true an AR 15 has a much higher velocity most likely you would have suffered less tissue damage. I’m so sorry to see that you where injured but don’t use your situation to lie and spread misinformation
@mia_tretta
This topic is very complicated. It's about velocity vs mass and what type of tissue the bullet goes through. So, for everyone saying she is wrong-you actually can't say. It depends.
@mia_tretta
I think the issue here is that someone shot you. Nothing else matters. If they didn’t have a gun, you wouldn’t have been shot. I’m so glad you’re ok now, but this post trivializes gun violence.
