I remember one video I saw and the person was like "erm well Mr krabs calls him a kid that's proof!!" like older people don't call anyone younger then them kids. jesus christ the movie wasn't about him literally being a kid imagine thinking it was
@metal_friendz
My mum calls people younger than her "kids". She calls me and my partner "kids" even tho we adults. It is actually kinda ableist to say someone is "kid coded" BC a lot of autistic adults act childish and it's implying we can't consent.
@riffraffeyes
my mom does the same thing and a lot of older adults call people younger then themselves kids, it really hurts when people imply characters that are neurodiverse are kids just because of how they act bc I have to put up with actually being labeled as a child every day
@metal_friendz
I agree tbh but that aside I don’t think his age is canonically set in stone regardless— there’s been episodes that place him at like ~14 (such as sleepy time) and some that have him well into adulthood... He’s basically whatever age the plot needs him to be akdhfjfhgh
muting, this wasn't supposed to blow up and I actually don't want to debate anyone on this bc im pretty set in my ways sorry don't follow me for this have a nice day
@metal_friendz
perfect time for me to infodump about hillenburg had to fight against the network to keep spongebob an adult while nick wanted him to be in high school, which ultimately led to him going to boating school so that he could stay an adult while nick got their School Fix
@metal_friendz
I don't really like SpongeBob but I have seen alot of the episodes as a kid and I remember some of the jokes literally hinge on the fact that he's a grown ass man who somehow can't drive. How do you miss this?
@metal_friendz
OK yes that is true but also we don't get to see how old he is until a pretty good distance into the show runtime and he gets called kid a lot so it would be pretty reasonable to assume that he was some kind of late teens person working a minimum wage job.
@metal_friendz
There is definitely a bigger issue at hand with people doing this to characters that can be seen as neurodivergent/ neurodivergent people relate to..I hate the notion that different/silly is seen as childish to neurotypicals
