I have no love for head replacers like the left. The right one however was an experimental “half-gith” hybrid by a modder who stated it was not meant to be an “improvement” of any sort, and who makes other gith heads with normal gith features.

He was a very different character in EA, and while I still love him, his earlier version was the one that had my brain in a grip for being so raw, unique, & compelling. I get why his narrative was shifted. EA Astarion was too great for our time, & the world wasn’t ready.

I have many opinions on modded faces, considering I make them myself, including disdain for removing unique NPC or species defining features. But I’m seeing a lot of misinterpretation on what the head on the right was meant to be, and it was never supposed to be a full gith.

Can someone explain where the "dark-haired/eyed Astarion" hc comes from? If it's just an alt look people like for him, then I can understand, but lore-wise vampires in DnD 5e don't have their dark hair turn white (e.g. Strahd & Cazador) & all circumstantial evidence points (1/2)

His background used to be Noble, not Charlatan, too. I feel his character has been sanded down to where he’s perceived as merely a victim of cruelty and circumstance rather than the corrupt, opportunistic aristocrat who saw his comeuppance.

People genuinely believe he was a kind person until torture made him selfish and sadistic. And I can’t blame newer fans for perceiving him that way when all evidence has been wiped from canon. As of now, we have no indication of the kind of person he was prior to turning.

LRT explained this well. His story was originally about an oppressor becoming oppressed. In life, he was exploiting a marginalized group for his personal gain, and while he deserved consequences, the abuse he endured from Cazador wasn’t justified, bc abuse is never justice.

That choosing who and when he engaged in sex was a way of taking back his bodily autonomy. He still did manipulate Tav, & he still had issues being present and coping w/ (repeated & very recent) trauma. But there’s a reason that EA fics/art portray him as very sex favorable.

CW: SA Unrelated to the former. His relationship to sex was also very different. The trafficking aspect was there, but there was heavy implication that he suffered direct SA from Cazador, that this was his primary trauma. Otherwise, he was shown to enjoy sex on his own terms…

Astari0n being sex-averse at times feels so realistic and representative for sex-averse folks, & I cherish it. At the same time, as someone ace-spectrum, I hesitate to label his sexuality as ace when he’s still processing trauma and his feelings/behaviors clearly stem from it.

In my search I’ve also come across people claiming his skin tone was several shades darker and that vampirism got rid of his melanin. Weird considering CC has 10 vampire skin tones, pale to deep, and Hexxat literally exists. Think that’s enough internet for me for the night. 😐

Something I’ve realized in my early-mid 20’s is that I don’t need a “dream job.” I need 1) a job that doesn’t make me want to die everyday, 2) that pays enough to afford necessities, charity, and entertainment, 3) and allows me enough time/energy to rest/socialize/create.
