#MartialLaw51 Ka Fidel was a political prisoner during the Marcos Sr. dictatorship. Back then, he organized urban poor communities when demolitions were rampant. In 1977, he was arrested with charges of "conspiracy to commit sedition" and "possession of illegal documents" .

He suffered through many forms of torture but never backed down. Ka Fidel and his fellow political prisoners conducted hunger strikes to protest their illegal arrests. Their visitors also often mobilized to call for due process for them.

Now that Marcos Jr. is president, Ka Fidel sees no difference between father and son-- the poor continue to bear the brunt of the economic crisis, and attacks on organizers and activists have grown worse.
