Victoria BC is named the #1 "most walkable city" in the world, outside the USA! Victoria is ranked ahead of London, Paris, Amsterdam and more. Thank you to Travel Awaits magazine for this prestigious award! #yyj #victoriabc #britishcolumbia #beautifulbc

@mattdellok No disrespect to Vancouver which I'm sure is a very beautiful and walkable city but that article is nonsence. Leaving out the US is bizarre, and why are all the places in🇨🇦or Europe? Here's a better article. Don't worry, Vancouver still gets a guernsey.

@mattdellok This is the most absurd thing I’ve *ever* read. Comparing Victoria BC, which is essentially a town, to London, NYC, and Paris? Come on. Taking into account size, London is infinitely more walkable than Victoria. It actually has a functioning transit system.

@mattdellok @ErikWdV Victoria is great, but #1 on a list that includes (of cities I have personal experience) Amsterdam, Venice, and Florence? No way. Also, try walking to Butchart Gardens; its way out of the city and would take hours. Beacon Hill Park is the obvious walkable green space.

@mattdellok I would add most of the Eastern European cities. The core is intact with accomodation around the center.

@mattdellok C’mon Matt. Victoria is lovely, very walkable etc… But we don’t need yet another ranking to convince us. It’s always about marketing & clicks for these sites. It’s fine to be a Victoria booster, but this is silly. My 2 cents.

@mattdellok It’s an inaccurate fluff piece in a tourist mag, focused on inner harbour, based only on reader votes. Not on meaningful metrics like well-maintained safe sidewalks, good lighting, low street crime, amenities. If walkability matters, maybe start by fixing the terrible sidewalks!

@mattdellok That is just absurd....those other cities are magnificent...Victoria is a shell of what ever it used to be...only walking out or away from Victoria is a good plan...is that what this odd ranking means?....i think Travel Awards must not have ever been to Victoria..sorry...

@mattdellok I was just in Paris. I saw the neatest thing. A wheelchair user didn’t have to use the road bc of poles in the sidewalk. Their wheels didn’t get stuck in cracks between uneven slabs. They could (gasp!) reach the button at the crosswalk! Victoria is NOT more walkable. What a joke

@mattdellok Lived in London for a decade and visited Amsterdam many times. There's no way that Victoria BC, as beautiful as it is, outranks them as a more walkable city. This is just marketing fluff.

@mattdellok I have walked in Munich, Halifax, Winnipeg, Vancouver, Frankfurt, Ottawa, and many other cities. While Victoria has a pretty harbour, and magnificent view of the mountains, it is no where near as walkable as others.

@mattdellok Hehe, by what metric? I've walked many great cities London, Lisbon, Barcelona, Paris, Amsterdam, NYC etc. Those are epic walkable cities. Victoria has a stroll around the inner harbour to Chinatown. Not even close. This writer writes as if someone sent him a few bullet points
