has clarified in an email, Aylward has been a senior adviser to the director general for the last couple years—so while he's indeed a former assistant director general, it would make sense that he isn't on the organisation's leadership webpage (& hasn't been for a while)

Assume he know this disaster can't be settled and he need to find a way out. With China's control,he can't resign. But he can be fired. What he did in the interview which was weird as an experienced mgmt & as adult, become very reasonable.That's what I can think of.All guess tho
