These shocking revelations call @JTAFLA 's credibility into question. $66 million in taxpayer money for transit that can't drive itself at night or in rain, and could only move 250 people per day to 70,000-seat stadiums may be the worst value transit project in America. #jaxpol 🧵

I want to start a conversation about something. Jacksonville is quietly beginning one of the most ambitious transportation projects in its history, and the way that project is built could define the city’s transportation future, but only if we want it to. Here’s how. #jaxpol 🧵

Seven years later, the Skyway is in disrepair. The promised tech miracle remains elusive. Many of its backers & allies have gone bust or left JTA for greener pastures. Yet the authority soldiers on, its once-simple modernization now a half-billion-dollar "innovation" experiment.

Jacksonville taxpayers won’t have to pay $12.5 million for this hotel. They will at Lot J.

@Real__State @EdelkopfYossi Construction costs are much cheaper but it’s because this train is slower than California’s train will be and uses a lot of existing freight tracks instead of building all of their own like Cali. California’s train will be much more like China’s than this will be.

Intermediate stops on the way north from Miami could include Daytona Beach and St. Augustine, as well as a potential stop in the suburbs of Jacksonville like Avenues Walk.

The @CityofJax and @JTAFLA can start preparing for passenger trains and transit oriented development at stations. The @NorthFloridaTPO can begin studying the needs for rail service, including infrastructure like double track and the Moultrie Speedway (more on that later).

Game on, @CityofJax ! The @USDOTFRA has awarded @MyFDOT a Corridor Identification & Development (or Corridor ID) grant to begin studying a passenger rail corridor between Jacksonville, Orlando, and Miami. What does this mean? A quick #jaxpol 🧵

The funding is there. The potential is there. The only thing missing from having Brightline in Jacksonville is the will of leaders to get it done.

So 41 years after Bob Graham's Shinkansen ride, and after many false starts, Florida today finally gained fast passenger rail between Miami and Central Florida. And work is already underway to expand Brightline to Tampa, Jacksonville, and perhaps beyond.

But as the U2C team tried to move the project forward, a problem emerged: the shuttles aren’t as tall as a standard peoplemover, meaning that just removing the beam would leave them several feet below the platform at stations.

But wait: the freight trains! How will they fit? Thankfully, @GoBrightline in South Florida has found a solution. By moving the platform further away from the train and adding a small gap filler that extends when the train is stopped, there’s still plenty of room!
