I put a lot of effort into making the experience of illustrators that I work with a pleasant one—it's easy to forget that I went to art school and I understand where you're coming from.
A gentle reminder: the person on the other end of your email is human, too. Please be kind.
99% of the illustrators that I work with are spectacular, talented humans that are SO nice. You make me feel so lucky to have the job I have that it never feels like work.
And there are days I'm surprised and upset by what the outlier 1% of illustrators will say to me.
@abidaker
Thank you, Abi! You are great to work with, too. I'd highly recommend you to another AD (and I have, in fact). I hope we can collaborate again soon!
@carlydraws
I'm planning to spend a lot of time with the Great British Baking Show!
Also, I don't know if I've ever said it to you directly, but I love your work!
@mallorygrigg
I've been seeing many people sayings about how people forget that in the other side of the email there's a person too. That's sad. Kindness and emphaty are always the best choices. Hope the good vibes of the 99% make you feel better :)
@mallorygrigg
It’s really disappointing when people can be purposely unkind. Especially in an industry where time is short and there are always multiple jobs to balance. Sorry to hear about your experience. Hope you have a restful and recharging weekend.
@mallorygrigg
Oh so sorry to hear that. I always subscribe to being professional, kind and treating everyone with respect and dignity. I'm also very much on the positive side. I do hope we get to work together some day. ❤ Thank you for your kindness and effort, it's appreciated.
@mallorygrigg
just reading this...illustrators who have the privilege of working with you should be grateful and so thankful. Not unkind. Makes me growl.
