Just got a new manuscript for a YA novel and the author created a Pinterest board with visual inspiration for the cover (not unusual). She also made a badass playlist to set the mood for the book, which is the coolest thing an author has ever done. I'm gonna rock out.

@mallorygrigg I do this for so many of my illustration gigs! Here’s a screenshot of the Pinterest board I had going for Rogue Princess lol!

@mallorygrigg What? ! So rad! When I was asked to illustrate 33 Minutes for Todd Hasak-Lowy (who’s inexplicably not on Twitter?) he sent me Ike Quebec’s Bossa Nova Soul Samba, because that was the record he’d written the book to. LOOOOOVE that album now! So thankful he shared it! 🙌🏻 📚🎶

@awesomebARTon Music is such a powerful way to set the tone of something that can be as abstract as a book cover. I may make it required homework for authors...

@mallorygrigg Heck yeah Pinterest boards are SO useful when I'm illustrating for a cover. Love the heck out of them. Authors I've worked with tend to be a bit shy sending them and I'm like NO, give me ALL of your inspiration imagery collections! They help! A lot!
