In the days when I was ‘the Rockin Rev’ and a kind of Padre to hardcore bikers I was asked if we could play Bat Out of Hell at a funeral. I paused and said ‘Yes, definitely. The bat is flying in the right direction!’

I once took the funeral of a biker at the Lodge Hill crematorium in Birmingham. The deceased’s sister had recorded a song for exit on what she thought to be a blank cassette … it wasn’t!

My wife gave me meat loaf at lunch today. It was an unintentional memorial. Never my cup of tea as a recording artist. But I pray God’s comfort for his family and friends.

My most “interesting” wedding was for a biker couple. When they kissed at the end of the ceremony, I briefly wondered whether their first child was going to be conceived at the altar.

Biker funeral in Wye, as the resident sound engineer, I was asked to play Stairway to Heaven. The celebrant “suggested” that it might be best played very very loud. I was only too happy to oblige!!
