I love linux, especially ubuntu, but the problem is that I'm afraid to install it on my Mac. I've tried once and lost all my data. I don't want that to happen again

This is very true. When I set up Linux (debian) I don't need to update any drivers. All my hot keys work straight away. On windows, I have to update the display drivers, hotkey drivers etc. Now that I'm no longer in college, i am using linux full time (zorin os)
