@paulg Yeah that's what I meant. She hit the spotlight, then people went looking for dirt. If she her stance was in line with the "status quo", she probably wouldn't have been caught. I imagine, that even if she had, it would have been ignored.

Prediction: Harvard will simultaneously deny that Gay resigned due to plagiarism, and add plagiarism to the checklist of things they vet potential presidents for.

@paulg She wouldn't have been fired for plagiarism if she didn't support the voices speaking up for Palestine. It was a hit job.

@kumailht People probably wouldn't have examined her work. But plagiarism is plagiarism.

@kumailht @paulg Status quo being donโ€™t support chants in favor of genocide? Yeah it helps if your stance is in line with that.

@greatparmesan @paulg One side said something you're claiming is genocide. The otherside killed thousands of civilian families, committed genocide, and are calling it self defense. Are you naive, intellectually dishonest or just a genocide supporter?

@kumailht @paulg Status quo here is murky. She was aligned with the internal status quo of Harvard, but not donors

@kumailht @paulg That's where you are wrong. "People" didn't go looking for dirt. "People" employed her knowing the dirt existed and intend to use the dirt to control her. Claudine Gay was supposed to tow the line and be a good puppet for the "people." She wasn't. She's paying the price now.

@kumailht @paulg The problem with DEI is that those who benefit from them think that they are owed that position, not because of their competence. But once their competence is questioned, instead of taking the L they question the questioner.
