@paulg She wouldn't have been fired for plagiarism if she didn't support the voices speaking up for Palestine. It was a hit job.

Prediction: Harvard will simultaneously deny that Gay resigned due to plagiarism, and add plagiarism to the checklist of things they vet potential presidents for.

@kumailht People probably wouldn't have examined her work. But plagiarism is plagiarism.

@paulg Yeah that's what I meant. She hit the spotlight, then people went looking for dirt. If she her stance was in line with the "status quo", she probably wouldn't have been caught. I imagine, that even if she had, it would have been ignored.

@kumailht @paulg Interestingly, all the people I know supporting Palestine on campus did not think Gay was supporting them at all.

@kumailht @paulg She was wrong on both points and was in the wrong seat. The people who put her in her seat also deserve accountability.

@kumailht @paulg There are bigger problems with having hidden but easy discoverable offenses. Anyone with something to gain can extort favors or more from such a person. This should not be a normal state of affairs.

@kumailht @paulg She wouldn't have been fired for plagiarism if she could answer a simple, direct question but failed to do so.
