After little research i managed to recreate cd-rom drive interface at my dev board. Mega-CD reads CD data streams of dev board successfully. Now i have better understanding what hardware i need for full implementation of mega-cd.
@krikzz
I'm waiting for your version, not that I have anything against Terraonion but I just trust your products from YEARS of being a very satisfied customer.
@krikzz
Releasing just what you have right there is my dream device. A true ODE. I want to replace the optical drive IN my megaCD with an SD card device, not replace my entire megaCD. Just like what has been done for 3do or DC. No need to do fpga of megaCD, you have already finished. 👍
@krikzz
So have you been able to play an actual MegaCD game using this Dev kit? Or is this just streaming generic data? Looking at the screen in the picture, I'd guess generic data.
@Mobiusstriptech
I loaded few cd sectors in board ram and tested if cd bios command works properly with my tiny ram CD. That's all what i were need for proof of concept. I believe that with attached sd it will boot with no problems, but it would the waste of time on this stage.
@krikzz
Cool! I think what the
#SegaCD
users need most is a cheap (!) replacement JUST FOR THE CD DRIVE. Those are dying quickly (laser, mechanics), while the electronics with the few custom chips (2nd 68k, ASIC etc.) are quite sturdy. THAT would be your sweet spot in the market I think!
@EidolonsInn
you said about sturdy electronics and i remembered about my cd-addon which were opened for experiments. It likely would be dead soon, if i did not open it now. Capacitors flow out and pcb around were corroded. Same crappy caps like in gamegear. Few years ago everything been fine
