I'll also give you a bit of cultural context here because I have lived in Uttarakhand for 10+ years. Once you leave the plains and head into the mountains, we are a very safe community up here. There are hardly any incidents of petty thefts in buses or shared taxis or pickpocket…

@kalapian_ @Kyangs_Thang Happens most of the time. Tuned back with jurisdiction excuse. I was even asked once if the incident is on this side of the tree or the other as the jurisdiction was divided by the tree.

@samanya_kumar I'm from Bangalore living in Uttarakhand for the last decade. All I could do yesterday when I heard this incident was hang my head in shame. At least the cops could have shown some human sympathy. Made him sit down, have a cup of tea, given a fair hearing and registered an FIR.
