I have traveled in Europe/Asia a bit and lived long in US. Have not experienced any free public transport. They are actually quite expensive (compared to India).
And at best they would offer income based subsidies. Gender discrimination is unthinkable.

I understand the sentiment. 2 imp things to note tho:
1. Income-based subsidy for public transport is infeasible. But, when implementation cost > revenue collected, it makes no sense.
2. Labour mobility of women is particularly bad in India. So, multiplier effect of this is +ve.

Estonia and Luxembourg have free public transport. Bus and subway costs in Germany are 80 rupees which is afoordable. Spanish govt has also made short and long train fare free. Public transport in France is gradually made free. Again, Where have you travelled in Europe?
@jsensarma
@RitayanGhosh1
You traveled by insta reels ? Because I was working with CV magazine and europe has service where you get ticket to roam around city with minimum fare

Gender discrimination ? Far right wing men have told women what to do their entire life .This is just the beginning of many schemes which should be focused on empowering and helping women .
1000's of middle ,working class will like this scheme
Good on our CM

Pls go live in Europe, Australia
And are you an expert in public policy, socioeconomic outcomes etc
I have heard the same folks rant & rave about MNREGA, mohalla clinics etc
And be non-plussed about high fuel taxes, royal lifestyle of politicians, NPA's
@jsensarma
@RitayanGhosh1
Maybe because there is so much gender discrimination overall. Or are women treated equally, paid equally, given equal opportunities in India?
@jsensarma
@RitayanGhosh1
A few cities such as Melbourne, Perth, Luxembourg and Talinn have free mass transit in certain city zones.
Most major cities in Europe, E/SE Asia, Australia and even the US have much cheaper mass transit relative to purchasing power than India does (see some examples attached).

Amazing! Such an enlightened globally traveled individual making fun of a welfare scheme announced by a Govt for the weakest section of the society for which the slogan itself is “……… bachao” (as they’re endangered species!). The scheme as I believe is not only for poor woman.
@jsensarma
@RitayanGhosh1
LoL you travelled across globe but did not learn anything...
Kindly go thru the public transport system of those countries that you have been to...
@jsensarma
@RitayanGhosh1
Indians really need to stop feeling sorry for getting welfare support. Instead of getting bitter over women or any marginalised group receiving state aid, we should be asking for subsidised support for *everyone* including working class men.

Well, these kind of guarantees in UK without Income made Liz Truss to loose her job in 2 months and Rishi Sunak became PM. People are still paying for her follies.
