Tomorrow is the first committee meeting where I will NOT be bringing snacks. This practice is thought to cause undue financial stress and exaggerate the power differential. Honestly, I feel a bit nervous about it but I’ll report back how it is received.

Alternatives could be the mentor bringing the snacks, or the department paying for it. Good luck with your committee meeting!

@AmeetRKini @KaminskiMed @JeremieLever @anupamuab @MKIttlesonMD @HumphreysLab @jhorowitzMD @m_konigshoff @MDPhDToBe @grahamdcochrane @AlexSilverMSTP I like the alternatives! It would be great if the graduate school or department made a formalized policy preventing graduate students from buying snacks & the depart would fulfill snacks for meetings if requested a certain amount of time in advance.

@jacepeabody @KaminskiMed @JeremieLever @anupamuab @MKIttlesonMD @jhorowitzMD @m_konigshoff @MDPhDToBe @grahamdcochrane @AlexSilverMSTP Our Assoc. Dean for graduate ed. sent an email out to all faculty explaining that snacks @ comm. mtgs are no longer expected/allowed for this very reason - good for you!

We dont take food even if the students voluntorily bring!

@jacepeabody @KaminskiMed @JeremieLever @anupamuab @MKIttlesonMD @HumphreysLab @jhorowitzMD @m_konigshoff @MDPhDToBe @grahamdcochrane @AlexSilverMSTP I scheduled mine right after our holiday luncheon so no one could have eaten a snack even if they wanted to - but then again, maybe lack of snacks is why I haven't graduated yet...
