Was there a bet on the desi sentiment that would draw people away from Twitter?
Were there bets on Twitter being banned in India; since their offices were raided (on a weekend, funnily!)
Twitter, WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram, etc looks like a very low-moat (competitive advantage) product. Anybody can replicate it in no time. But I don't understand why seasoned investors fall for it?
The network effect works in the first mover's favor. (1/4)
KOO started as a rival of Twitter, is up for sale as they have significantly lost its user base.
Koo fired 30% staff on funding crunch in April this year
Koo had spent ₹202 Cr to earn ₹14 lakh in FY22
It is close to impossible for a rival with a slightly better product to capture the market. Why is it so?
I have 7400 followers on Twitter, reached over 5 years. What is the incentive for me to migrate to Koo or Threads and spend the next 5 years building a 7K following? (2/4)
Unless
@Twitter
provides a way to migrate all your followers it is not viable. Same with WhatsApp. Telegram came with a much better product, but no use.
Can I take all my family and friends' WA groups to Telegram? No. (3/4)
But I don't understand how Koo investors like
@Accel
@Kalaari
@Ashneer_Grover
etc missed this important point before pumping $50 million?
They are looking for patterns of success and outsource thinking. If an idea is novel, it is not going to be there in any book you read. (4/4)
