@highkeyoli โ€œsorry for any pain i causedโ€ is so insanely impersonal, vague, and ineffective. Heโ€™s a writer and a lyricistโ€”he easily could have used better words and gave a real apology, but he didnโ€™t. It was a complete choice on his part to be insensitive

@highkeyoli It implies that maybe he didnโ€™t cause any pain, or just a tiny bit. Saying you apologies for causing you are admitting you did cause a significant amount of pain. But I guess youโ€™d only get that in a real apology.

@highkeyoli Literally. He knows the impact of his words and he doesnโ€™t even have the tact to deliver a heartfelt reasonable apology.

@highkeyoli Fr itโ€™s like saying โ€˜sorry u felt that wayโ€™ instead of โ€˜sorry I made you feel that wayโ€™

@highkeyoli first one is impersonal and not acknowledging any harm done. second is personal, saying that they know they hurt others.

@highkeyoli Mhm! It suggests that he doesnโ€™t actually think he was in the wrong/did anything to hurt her, even though he did

@highkeyoli Literally ALL he had to do was actually acknowledge it and apologize. A simple "this is what I did, it was really shitty of me, and I apologize for these specific things and I will try to improve in the future." Is really all twitter needed.

@highkeyoli The "sorry for any pain I caused" gets even worse when you consider the fact that he didn't say her name in the whole thing, it makes that sentence feel like it's not even addressed to her or the other victims, it's just thrown into the void

@highkeyoli This! I once initially apologised to someone with โ€™Iโ€™m sorry if I hurt youโ€™ and then pointed it out and changed it to โ€™Iโ€™m sorry for anything I did that hurt youโ€™ because I realized I hadn't apologised properly. The first is saying โ€™Iโ€™m sorry you feel that wayโ€™ and itโ€™s gross.
