History was made here today as we swore in Gwinnett's first African American chairwoman, Nicole Love Hendrickson. She was the founding director of the Gwinnett County Community Outreach program. Chairwoman Hendrickson's first Board of Commissioners meeting will be January 5.

Today, we celebrated the swearing-in ceremony of District 1 Commissioner Kirkland Carden. Carden has called Gwinnett County home for 17 years and formerly served as a Duluth City Council member. Commissioner Carden's first Board of Commissioners meeting will be January 5.

Today, we cut the ribbon on the new Duluth branch of the @gwinnettlibrary . The new state-of-the-art facility is about twice the size of the previous branch and features 36 computer stations, two learning labs, a meeting room that can fit 120 people, and more!

#ICYMI : The BOC adjusted a County ordinance to follow changes to state law. Restaurants can now sell wine, beer, and mixed drinks with takeout orders. Plus, hours for beer and wine sales on Sunday have been extended two hours, now running from 11:00am until midnight.

This past Sunday, Gwinnett officials dedicated the Graves Park dog park to fallen SWAT K9 Blue. K9 Blue was the first canine assigned full-time to the @GwinnettPD SWAT Unit and was shot and killed in 2020 while tracking suspects who fled a stolen vehicle in Norcross.

Gwinnett County Voter Registrations and Elections assures those voters that their ballots will be counted just like any other ballot cast today. In addition, elections staff has delivered all of the equipment to those polling locations.

Today, the BOC approved an 8 percent market adjustment for all eligible County employees. First responders will receive an additional 2 percent, bringing their pay increase to 10 percent. The market adjustment also raises the minimum hourly rate for County positions to $15.

With the potential for unsafe road conditions Monday, January 17, solid waste collection in unincorporated Gwinnett will be delayed by one day for the remainder of the week. Routes will run Tuesday, January 18 through Saturday, January 22.
