[ spiderverse spoilers ] i loved how they casually dropped in that Miguel pretended to be a version of himself that died. can you imagine your husband coming home and he looks and sounds the same but sometimes he just. forgets things. and so you wonder.
like not even "I had a wife and child when I WASNT SUPPOSED TO and the universe PUNISHED ME" no. He went into that universe and replaced that poor guy. Why'd he do that
@gertritude
I feel like it's more than implied that he might have killed the guy since they just kind of show his body collapsing not any specific cause of death
Hello viewers. I would like to emphasize Miguel was my favorite character from this movie and I think he's obviously intended to be a decent guy with some baggage - I just thought this was interesting to think about. Also yes - I forgot a wife was never mentioned for him!
This clarification is not necessy but I got awful visions of this being the "defining fandom view" of him and people vagueposting like "smh people mischaracterizing Miguel and calling him creepy when he's just a decent dad 🙄" and I felt my muscle start to fall off my bones
@gertritude
it’s crazy bc imagine being the daughter in that scenario. ur dad comes home from work one day and you know something’s off about him but u can’t quite place it so ur raised by a version of ur dad who feels slightly alien 2 u
@gertritude
One thing that intrigues me is maybe the reason Miquel’s Spider-Man in the first place (his Uncle Ben moment) was the death of his wife so once he found that universe where he had a family and died it was living what he couldn’t
And maybe the universe collapsed because-

❗️ SPIDERVERSE SPOILERS ❗️
when i watched it for the first time and he explains what he did and says "i thought it was harmless" i literally went "??? how?? that's like super fucked up" and it's been stuck in my head since then
@gertritude
Actually terrifying to think about. Like imagine being his wife or daughter and just noticing his hugs just feel slightly more desperate and tighter than normal
@gertritude
To be fair, we know Miguel is kind of a creep cuz he has screens that show him events as they happen so there’s a very good chance that he memorized everything about Other Miguel’s life
@gertritude
OK BUT imagine watching the news and it says theyre trying to ID a murder victim and you look and he looks EXACTLY like your husband. Your husband, who’s in the next room, but hasn’t been Quite Right for the past few days. That’d be fucking terrifying
@gayswordfight
yeah, other people pointed it out and upon reviewing the scene he doesn't seem to? I didn't remember that when writing the tweet but it makes sense - I don't think his replacement is meant to really be a "bad" thing in the movie, and it's better if he's just taking care of a kid
@gertritude
Especially considering that Miles universe was never “supposed to” be the way it is, and Peter was never “supposed to” have a baby and their universes are completely fine should tell you something
@gertritude
I feel like not enough ppl who saw the movie were like. “You did WHAT.” Like I feel as a collective we are brushing that off as not a big deal when for me personally it was him holding up a big red flag that says “I am a human shaped pile of issues shambling around like a man”
