When I was her age, I didn’t want to draw attention to myself or my hair. Since I definitely “pass,” my mother would actually straighten my hair. Whitewashed. It wasn’t until I got older that I’ve embraced who I am and my hair is definitely a big part of that. Bay, you have time.
Posting this pic of my daughter(Bay)with her permission. She was sad because she hates her curls. I think she is 🔥Drop a word of encouragement, help her stay lifted❤️
Unfortunately i can’t comment on her original post. She’s not following me. I notice everyone tagging me. I sincerely hope she knows how gorgeous she looks and how powerful her hair is. 💙💙💙

When I was young, I hated my auburn hair. People would say, "I love your Strawberry blonde hair." I would deny having red hair, & say, 😒"It's not red, it's blonde." Clearly it was red. Some kids were really mean to kids w/red hair in the 70's. Sad.

Those of us that can relate & understand, let's embrace this sweet child. Little Ms. will in time embrace her unique, gorgeous self. As a kid, my curly, wavy hair was challenging. I learned that my hair was what so many girls wanted, & paid a hefty price to get done. 🔥🔥🔥

I’m really not to break free from this. my mom has pushed me to straighten my hair since I was a kid. I’ve been slowly trying to get back to being natural again. you inspire me. 🥰

You are stunning- this makes me so sad to imagine. What an absolute capture in time of just how far we need to come as a whole society... life is SUCH a struggle before one learns to love themselves (not easy after either 🙃). Self- confidence is the key to all of it!

My 12-year-old niece is going through that same thing.
Not happy with her big hair. Trying to get her the proper cut and shape and products.
