The point of comedy isn't to "shock and awe". The point is to make people laugh. The point isn't to say things regular folk can't say. The point is to make people laugh. "Comedy is the last bastion of free speech." We're not. We are salesmen, selling laughs. That's it.
If the culture has changed and the audience doesn't like your jokes, then it's the comedians job to adapt and change as well. Can't sell a product no one wants. Times change, people change, comedy has always changed to fit.
What is and isn't "offensive" is determined my the audience. The audience is your "customer". Give them what they want, don't give them what they don't want. Business School Day 1.
