Well here's a plot twist I never saw coming... Just made my first ever batch of idlis at home!

Apparently this deemed newsworthy by the good people of Kerala. Honoured and bemused.

@DrAnimeshSingh Afraid not. I actually made them for my daughter, who is a huge fan of idlis (having been indoctrinated while staying in Kerala). But she hasn't yet developed a taste for the accompanying sambar and chutneys - too spicy, she says!

@edanderson101 So is the Northumbrian Idli Appreciation Society still in the works ?? @ShashiTharoor could be Chief Patron ?? 😂

@theswami @ShashiTharoor Well he would, of course, be the ultimate Patron of such an institution. However I'm not sure I'd even qualify for membership.

@Asha_EK I'm afraid that I'm still an amateur and relied on pre-made batter (proper stuff though, not the powder!)

@edanderson101 Of all the delectable things that constitute Indian cuisine, you chose the sour, distasteful, unlikable, far too common, but never worth remembering, IDLI to make at home? Can you try something heavenly like a dosa.

@katecmorrison Used a pre-made batter. Not the powdered sort but the actual liquid batter. Should be available in shops that stock South Indian foods.
