Amazing map showing the distribution of India's 1.1 million students studying abroad. I was surprised recently to find out there were 18k Indian students in Ukraine. Many people also seem to have a rather Western-centric notion of where Indian students study. (via

Here's the data behind the map, courtesy of info provided by the MEA in 2021 available here: (and shared on

). Shout out to the single Indian students in Serbia and Vietnam!

I certainly imagine that's a factor. Other factors might include ease of admission (in terms of entrance grades, language requirements, etc.) and cost of studying and living. Amongst other things...

Good point. I think the data (from Indian govt - ) is possibly off. It's from 2021 so likely based on 2020 or before, and certainly won't take into account last year's jump (helped partly by the re-introduction of post-study work visas).

230 in Pakistan 😳. I hope the indian security agencies are watching them like the MI5 and Scotland Yard watches it's Pakistani communities

Did not realise UAE was top, nor how many in Saudi Arabia, both much higher than the UK. I know people who studied in Russia (then USSR obviously) in the 1960s but interesting to see still quite a lot there as well as Ukraine)

I’m bit concerned about those 230 students, what exactly are they learning? what will they do when they come back!! at least 30 will get involved in blasting themselves or others, directly or indirectly.
