@LukeDon80051530 It's good to debate these things but if your best example is Vikings then you may not have a great case. The Vikings haven't invaded Britain for 1000 years, whereas many of Britain's >4.5 million people of South Asian descent have a living memory of suffering under colonial rule.

Havelock Road in Southall - London's 'Little India' - is finally to be renamed Guru Nanak Road. This is a big deal. Havelock Rd was named after the colonial British general who fought in the Sikh wars & later suppressed the 1857 Uprising. It is home to London's largest gurudwara.

@edanderson101 Give me a break from all this crap. History is what happened in the past, good and bad but most importantly what shaped any particular country. What next, let's not talk to anyone from one of the Viking countries, they committed lots of atrocities against UK citizens

@edanderson101 That is the point...its historic. Thats why they call it history. It doesn't preclude recent history or only relate to ancient history. You are doing just what I pointed out and cherry picking

@LukeDon80051530 It's not just about time. The fundamental difference is this: can present-day injustices be traced to Viking invasions? Of course not. Can the same be said for legacies of Britain's recent - and not so recent - history of colonialism, slavery, and racist imperialism?

@edanderson101 @LukeDon80051530 History is history though? My mother remembers being evacuated as a child during WW2 . She has a ‘living memory’ . I’m not sure your point Edward? Should we still hate Germans?

@elaynedraper @LukeDon80051530 This isn't about hating anyone. If your analogy is about WW2, then there are loads of place names in areas under German occupation (and, of course, in Germany itself) that were named after people associated with the Third Reich. The names have all been changed. Simple as that.

@edanderson101 @LukeDon80051530 "Britain's 4.5m people of South Asian descent have a living memory of suffering under colonial rule." So let's beckon all the vengeful South Asians over & let them wreak havoc upon the indigenous working-classes (who also suffered at hands of the elite). Makes sense in PC World

@edanderson101 @LukeDon80051530 It’s similar to the immigration issue, when will it stop? 3 trillion in debt, how many is too many? How many should come to the uk? All of Africa? When will this shaming of the English stop? Will my “ never involved grandkids “ have this done to them? Should Brits be eradicated?

@edanderson101 @LukeDon80051530 Met loads of South Asians who wish British rule would return too. In reality living memory is way less in peoples mind than the propaganda that is pushed in the education system and media. If these South Asians had such a bad opinion of Brits then they never would have emigrated

@edanderson101 @LukeDon80051530 Yes the suffering under colonial rule was so bad that many of them chose to settle here and India has copied many aspects of UK life. I love Sikhs and have worked with many Sikh people. But why RENAME a road. Plenty of new roads that could have been given the name.
