i think one of the most frustrating things about the democrats' misuse of identity politics is that they've somehow taken "politics should serve marginalized people" and warped it into "politics should look like marginalized people"

representation matters but only to an extent. i'd give up any queer people being elected to public office for a generation in exchange for easier medical transition services or medicare for all or increased lgbtq+ rights and protections.
