art doesn't need to justify function, that's why it's art! you can't get this specific result with traditional methods. it's more about the process, not the end result
@PeeboBroccoli
just cuz you dont like the project doesnt make it not art. it’s literally, physically, objectively an art project and its impossible to understand how you can disagree with that
@tedkmode
it uses preexisting images to try to visually match a real unique moment as closely as possible using nothing but words. streetview has nothing to do with it??
@Blonded711
so someone designed a machine, wrote the software, constructed it, tested it, and physically modeled it in a creative way with clear references to its function and you’d say that’s not art? that’s just insulting honestly, tell that to the past 100 years of multimedia artists
@LilJinkies
the whole thing is the art piece, including the output images. the images are not art on their own, as the ML side is designed to functionally represent realistic scenes
@dynastic
It’s so impossible to invent a camera without lens, but now it’s real! As much as I’m grey on my stance with A.I., this is hands down one of the most innovative use of art generators.
@keroshidoes
its neat as hell! i’m a diy musician and i understand the threat AI poses, but when we come together for cool applications like this it’s rly special
@dynastic
If you wanna argue the merit behind ai art we can do that but these comments denying the art of this in its entirety should tell you all you need to know about people’s understanding of art.
@dynastic
It’s worth noting that the implementation is very cool, but that it’s also painfully redundant and in many ways inferior to what you’d get with any camera. The “art” is the build itself, not what it produces.
