The “power grab” - to use your reference - is actually from the Reps who don’t want to loosen their grip: there is a demand that should be discussed, not ridiculed. Isn’t that how democracy is supposed to work?
@DanRather
The idea that DC needs to be the 51st in order to give its citizens representation is pretty much undercut by the fact that it'd be easier to merge it back into Maryland. Insisting on statehood is nothing but a naked power grab by the Dems.

The "demand" can be satisfied by reincorporating DC into Maryland. Democracy would be satisfied, unless the whole move is really just to secure two more seats in the senate for your party.

Then I assume you support western Washington and Oregon splitting from the more leftist coastal regions to from a new state, or joining Idaho? Or splitting California? Or separating rural Illinois from Chicagoland?

Thankfully it has been discussed. And we haven't given statehood to DC largely due to the fact that they don't want a state being responsible for making federal laws that affect every other state.
