I met a homeless man a few days ago outside the homeless shelter. He asked me if I had extra vape juice, I gave him some. I felt bad for him. His story was shocking, Life dealt him a truly shitty hand. It was not fair, and rather than be a skeptic and call his story a lie, [1/10]
I helped him out. I listened to his story for a long while and after getting to know him, I offered him breakfast. I offered him a shower, Gave him some new clothes I didn’t use anymore. Offered lunch and dinner and introduced him to my friends. [2/10]
The day went on, had loads of fun. Gave him a couch to sleep on so he didn’t have to stay in the homeless shelter or sleep outside. Gave him some new shoes. I have a lot of extra shoes I don’t wear, so what the heck. The next day, we made breakfast for everyone. [3/10]
We got ingredients at Costco, really cheap. Made dinner for everyone. Got to know him more. Really sound dude. Let him stay another night on the couch. He ran the vacuum, took Jax on walks, helped me with laundry, dishes, trash and dusting. [4/10]
The third day, I asked him how serious he was about getting back to work. He said he wanted a job really bad so he could get back on his feet. I gave him one of my spare phones to network with people and get in contact with family from back home. [5/10]
I called up some friends, managers at the company I used to work for. I asked if they had any job openings, and they said yes. They said if he’s cool with me, he’s hired- not even a formal interview, they hired him purely on my word. [6/10]
The company hired him on Monday, His first day of work was today. So I got him shoes for work on Tuesday night and money for a train ticket back to my place. [7/10]
He’s working full time, planning on paying me rent and moving with us into our new place while he saves up for his own. He said I’ve helped him more in two days than the homeless shelter had in two weeks. You know what it cost me? [8/10]
Some time, clothes I don’t even wear anymore, a new pair of shoes and under 100 bucks that he’s paying back on his first check. I took a man off the streets, helped him get a job and some hope. I felt so good about it, I still feel good about it. [9/10]
I want to do it again to someone else. This is what life is about. This is what makes life great. It only takes a few moments out of your life to change someone else’s. I don’t really know how to end this string of tweets... I’m just happy I could help someone. [10/10]

You guys are amazing folks and I hope we can get to know you both better someday. You're doing more than some of the people who have lived here their whole life
@dirdwolf
That was very inspiring man, I often have wondered the same thing seeing the homeless in Wellington City when we go over there every so often.
It's all to easy to get distracted with what really matters in life, it fogs the brain up, I'm very happy you had this experience.
@dirdwolf
This is heartwarming & actually got me teary eyed. Thank you for being genuine & warm to a stranger. That is truly what living should be about. <3
