300 years we were peasant farmers in Mohill co Leitrim ,paying rent to a lovely man called lord Leitrim very nice guy google him , family home place in blue I’ve all planted now with oak trees , I’ve done more for the climate change that any of you Key board warriors
I've lived a few miles from
#Ballinamore
for 17 years, paid property tax in
#Leitrim
, employed local contractors, tried my hardest to spend every penny in my pocket in the shops of Ballinamore.
Tonight a group of heavies tried to intimidate me out of attending a meeting.
I was asked if I was local, I replied that I was. I was asked where I was from & I told them. I live 6 miles from
#Ballinamore
. I was told the meeting was "for residents of the town only." I pointed to their statement in
@IrishTimes
that residents of the wider area were welcome.
I told them I've spent the last 17 years working in Dublin because of no jobs in the area & making a conscious effort to spend every penny in
#Ballinamore
. I told them when I come into town, I start at the top of the town & try to leave a few quid at every business in the town.
I told them I've organised events in
#Ballinamore
for years, that I've continually promoted the town & encouaged others to spend money here. I said "That's how I've spent the last 17 years. Do you want to tell me I'm not welcome now?
I didn't wait for an answer. I went in.
As I entered, my main interrogator backed down a bit & said "We didn't know if you were media or what & there's no media allowed at the meeting." I said "IME when people are anxious to keep media out of a meeting, it's usually because they know they're doing something wrong."
The seats took up about 1/3 of the hall & were mostly full, 200-250 people, a big empty space behind them. Another 70-100 people were leaning against the walls. I went to the middle of the back wall & sat on the floor. I can't stand for hours, I'm just out of hospital.
Immediately I sat down on the floor, three yellow-vested men came & formed a line in front of me with their backs towards me, blocking my line of sight. They remained there for the whole meeting & were supplemented at times by two others. It was an attempt to intimidate.

Ah, my people were here a few hundred years before yours were, Dessie... but we all have the same rights in a republic, don't we? Whichever one of us described the other as "only" a blow in was definitely in the wrong!
I've an idea: let's look at when the first O'Rourke arrived in Leitrim & the first Wisley - we'll see then who is the "blow in." 😂😂😂
(I'm joking. There are no "blow ins," not entitled to an opinion. Des & I are citizens of a republic, with the same rights, no more, no less.)
