showeunners saying Alic*nt is supposed to be like a woman for trump, is exactly the vibes i got from her. a religious zealot caught up in her own beliefs who’s deluded herself into thinking by upholding the patriarchy is what’s best for the greater good.
& yes, it could’ve even worked for her book self. u tack on the ambitious element, who uses religion & charisma to get what she wants, it works. she’s not meant to be a “likable” character, not where u justify her actions.

It's insulting that they are saying she actually believes that. Like, it would've been way better if she was just using it to gain power and support for her line. Just pandering to the high lords and using them.
@DeanerysStormb2
i mean sure, i don’t necessarily like what they did w her character in the show by making her a victim, but that’s just my take on her show counterpart. but i also think the term can be used interchangeably. she can still use her power to step over women w her own agency intact
@promisedtarg
Why I don’t really hate what they did with Alicent on the show. It’s a really good adaptation of a conservative woman just ceaselessly shooting herself in the foot. No, she doesn’t make sense internally, but neither do these women in real life
@AceMarston
i agree with how they’re portraying a conservative woman, i just don’t like that they made her a child bride, her trauma didn’t need to turn her into what she became, she could’ve been that without the trauma
@SilentWhisper65
to add drama tbh. i think it’s something that HBO probably pushed, bc they’re the ones that get final say. bc it sounds like Ryan originally wanted to start this when Rhaenyra was 8 like her book counterpart
@promisedtarg
A part of me always feels bad for Alicent because no girl deserves what she was put through by Otto and Viserys, but I do agree that she was unnecessarily spiteful and resentful towards Rhaenyra and her boys when they’ve literally done no wrong to her those years
