This is very sad...I keep hearing this, and it's why I started a #freewritingfriday campaign. Fifteen minutes, every Friday, for a child to write WHATEVER THEY WANT in a special notebook that the teacher can't mark... No rules, no marking, just fun... much love to yr grandson

I think people don't realise that MANY schools have no library... 1 in 8 according to this recent survey, and there are LESS libraries in primary schools and in schools with a higher proportion of children on free school meals.

I am delighted that the government has removed the tax on ebooks. Reading has measurable, real-life benefits; the removal of this tax widens access to books and is particularly important for those with disabilities and children just discovering the joy of reading.
