Duraleaks strike again … sigh … I used this device a week ago and it was not low on battery.

@angelwolf71885 This is a device I use slaringly where one set of batteries last 5-10 years. I should get some lithiums probably.

@craig1black They used to be a premium brand in the UK as far as I remember. You had the Energizer bunny in the US/Canada and we had the Duracell bunny. But I think they're rubbish all over the world now.

@Velocir35149743 Heh it was allways the Energizer bunny here too. It was "Duracell, The copper top."

@loricelf They expired a few years ago. Isn't the date a "use by" date?

@craig1black I’ve always wondered. What actually causes this corrosion. Is it always battery leakage? Swelling/bursting? Excess moisture in the environment where the batteries were in use? The same batteries in package may not leak like this…so it’s clearly some combination of factors.

@BrianTheTrekkie I totally don't know.... But what they leak out is a strong alkaline (base) so one can neutralize it with some citric acid or vinegar at least. I know some have tried to do experiments but there seems to be no rhyme or reason.

@craig1black Alkaline batteries all seem to be trash now. I use NiMH for nearly everything just to protect my equipment.

@craig1black My portable work light started flickering. Back off, batteries out and, yes, 3rd Duracell had leaked. I’ve never so many leaking batteries as I have had with Duracell to the point I now no longer use them.

@chewcudda I generally use Ikea batteries but I think these came in the device. I feel all Alkalines leak when they are getting up there in age. I've had Ikea ones leak too.

@craig1black Duracells are the worst battery ever made (worse than Varta). Killed many a pinball machine MPU, while I have an energizer from a toy of mine from the early 80s that still have a charge.
