The 23rd spill (14K barrels & counting) from 12 yr-old #Keystone pipeline is larger than previous 22 put together. I expect focus of coverage will be on how much money Canadian oil companies lose while pipeline is closed, but this is an ecological disaster

Keystone has a special permit to operate at higher pressure than what is normally allowed. Since it got this permission 5 years ago it's had larger, more frequent spills. Higher pressure -> more spills is probably causation rather than just correlation...

@climatekeith The Huntington Beach oil spill last fall was called an "ecological disaster" also. There were days of damning rhetoric about the pipeline and oil generally. Talk of 1000s of dead birds, etc. It was later determined a ships anchor caused the spill.
