While writing a passage in the new book about a Northern Goshawk, I looked up and saw one or these rare birds hunting over our pasture. Kind of wonderful and disconcerting at the same time…

In Idaho, a shadow passed over. Looking toward the sun I say a Golden Eagle circling. I called my mini-dachshund and brought her inside. Living near a river in Idaho is wonderful. Love your books.

At elk camp south of your place, we had a small flock of gray Jay's we befriended. One afternoon they flew in and landed beneath our chairs and feet, surprising us. A goshawk was hot on their tails, it flew between dad and I just feet off the ground.

Our next door neighbors in Maryland kept two hawks. They were beautiful, but I was a little nervous because we had two small children at the time. We both lived on half acre lots, so they took them elsewhere to fly.

I will never forget the first time I saw an American Eagle. So magnificent! I see a lot of red-tailed hawks and sometimes crows will mob them
