One News led with a story about keeping Kiwis safe by reducing speed limits. Picton crash, which killed 7 people, was used as an example. The car sadly crossed the centre line. It was nothing to do with speed.

@chrislynchmedia Would the outcome have been the same though if the speeds were lower?

@MikeMatakatia yes, sadly. The van collided head-on with a refrigerated truck.

@NoFloatingVoter Haha what is it with Government supporters, unable to cope with reality. Snarky wee lefties, so brittle.

@chrislynchmedia It literally has everything to do with speed. 80km vs 100km is a huge difference (I’m assuming you failed physics at school).

@chrislynchmedia I think you will find speed is always a factor in fatal crashes. And poor road design & yep, every km makes a difference. We also have a weird desire to overtake & we don’t have traffic cops or enough speed cams.

@chrislynchmedia Crossing the centreline caused the crash. Speed determines the outcome; whether it’s a sticky plaster, hospital, or the morgue. The underlying physics is reasonably simple.

@chrislynchmedia Didn’t the driver fall asleep because they were SPEEDING to catch a ferry. Your point is indefensible.

@chrislynchmedia That stretch of road is already 80km/h anyway.

@chrislynchmedia “Speed was a factor…” It’s their ‘go-to’ phrase! Let’s be real; you can’t crash if you are stationary! 🙄

@chrislynchmedia Safe drivers manage to get from A to B, so anyone who doesn’t must be at fault (unless the faulty driver crashes into them).
