One News led with a story about keeping Kiwis safe by reducing speed limits. Picton crash, which killed 7 people, was used as an example. The car sadly crossed the centre line. It was nothing to do with speed.

I think you will find speed is always a factor in fatal crashes. And poor road design & yep, every km makes a difference. We also have a weird desire to overtake & we don’t have traffic cops or enough speed cams.

Crossing the centreline caused the crash. Speed determines the outcome; whether it’s a sticky plaster, hospital, or the morgue.
