I launched a learning series for Canadians on " #isitgenocide ?" in honour of the MMIW. Some have asked that I tag the entries so they are easier to follow so I am reposting prior entries with the #isitgenocide and will post a new learning resource daily with that hashtag. #1

Learning for those wondering if "genocide" is the right term, I am launching a learning series today. Here is the first resource. The "great dying" of Indigenous peoples in the Americas may be linked to climate change:

“One of the amendments purposed by senate is to make indigenous consultations OPTIONAL , I don’t think Canadians wants to go back to @stephenharper yrs of ignoring indigenous people in how we built resource projects, that’s the good way to get nothing done”

@cblackst Thank you Cindy. Also good to have a new civil society groups like Eagle Spirits of the Great Waters in Mississauga ON led by indigenous elders and others who welcome settlers to reconcile 1to1 around kitchen tables and local cultural activities.

@cblackst How otherwise, when women were forced + tricked into being sterilized, + Indigenous people regularly asked how they are still around? I recall a teacher giving us a calculation of when there would be the last Indigenous, in talking about the Beothuks. Genocide fr/past to present.

@cblackst @AngelaSterritt This weekend, I had excellent conversations about genocide as a label. Some still don't understand, but are willing to learn. Your resources will go a long way to helping them learn. Thank you

@cblackst @ArleneHache Genocide is definitely the right about look for ways to support the indigenous women,to stop the atrocities instead of looking for the right term.

@cblackst I find it ironic that a lot of those who see immigration as "white genocide" are also the same people to deny this is actual genocide...just goes to show how many willfully ignorant people exist I guess
