Wow, an incredible find from the ice in the Italian Alps😍 The remains of at least 15 Ibex (skulls, bones and even fur!) have melted out of the ice on the summit of Mount Lodner, at 3200 m. The first radiocarbon date is back and it is 7000 years old😮

The Ibex have been preserved by 'cold ice' (non-moving ice frozen to the ground), just like Ötzi was (). The find spot is only a little more than 10 km east of the Tisenjoch, where Ötzi was found.

We have lots of questions about this find.🙂Are all the Ibex remains from the same date or have they accumulated over time? Are they remains of hunting or religious offerings on the mountain top? We will keep you posted as more information emerges.

@subfossilguy I think so. The source says that the date is 7.018 +- 37, and says that the find is 1700 older than Ötzi. This only makes sense if the date is calibrated.
