When my grandfather went to University of Maryland School of Law in the late 1950’s the tuition was about $200 per year.
By 1970 it was about $400.
Today if it had kept up with inflation it would be about $2,600.
It’s actually more than $31,000.
Students deserve better.
It costs an estimated $790 to fully dress a police officer in riot gear.
It costs an estimated $11 to dress a medical worker in PPE.
Which one of these groups do you think is running low on equipment across the nation?
Which candidate am I for?
The one who supported Jesse Jackson in ‘84 and ‘88
The one who was a leader of CORE and a friend to SNCC.
The one who actually got arrested fighting racism.
The one who Rev. Jackson just endorsed for 2020.
I’m for
@BernieSanders
.
Mom called & said:
“I grew up in segregation in Maryland
Got picketed at my high school
Had to leave... It was illegal for your dad and I to get married or stay there
And now you’re running for Governor
Thank you...
It’s just healing.”
(& then she cried)
(& I did too)
Bernie is a Democratic Socialist. Like many of our Allies In Europe.
His policies mirror the ambitions of MLK & FDR.
Anyone Democrat getting hysterical, calling him a “socialist” or a “communist” has had their brain coopted by the GOP and is embarrassing us on the world stage.
I didn’t have a black male teacher until I got to college.
He told me I would make a great Rhodes Scholar.
I applied...& won.
Last year, I taught my first college course.
I encouraged all my students to apply.
One was Jordan Thomas.
He applied...& won.

In 2011 I was @ death row in GA with Troy Davis & his nephew Dejuan.
Troy: If they kill me you’re his uncle.
Me: Sure. What do I need to do?
Troy: Make sure he gets a college degree & a career.
Today Dejuan graduated

. Tomorrow he’ll be @ work as an engineer!
It kills me every time I hear a “conservative” pretend employers hire more when they have more cash on hand. Employers hire more when they have more demand. Period. Demand goes up when consumer spending increases. Consumer spending increases when workers get a raise.
#FightFor15
Today the
@NRA
gave me an F.
As a public school parent, I am generally opposed to getting F’s.
However, I am proud to have earned this one over a lifetime of standing up for the right of all of our children and neighbors to feel safe where they live, work, study & play!
We won. We won BIG!
As we say in the NAACP...Thank you to everyone who gave their time, their treasure or their talent!
Now... let’s go do it again!
#WeGotThis
My son chose to draw Istanbul’s Blue Mosque for his first grade class.
I asked why.
He said “We all had to pick one of the buildings to draw and no one in my class wanted to draw a mosque.
So I raised my hand”
When it comes to inclusion, let’s all keep raising our hands.
Winning is winning.
Stealing is stealing.
Bernie is poised to win.
The question is: Will DNC leaders stoop to stealing to stop him?
I come from the Democratic wing of the Democratic Party.
We will fight anyone who tries to steal an election.
Our Next Electoral Nightmare: Half Kentucky’s Black voters live in one county.
It will have one polling place... for 616,000 registered voters.
Today’s GOP knows no limits when it comes to discrimination... and destruction of our democracy.
I support Bernie.
I will actively support the Democratic Nominee.
That’s what Bernie and I both did after Jackson lost the nomination in 88. And that’s what we did after Bernie lost in 16.
And I’m looking forward to watching all Democrats do the same for Bernie this fall.
This is my grandma, Mamie Todd.
She turns 102 this month!
Her granddad was born a slave and died a state legislator.
Her grandson became a Rhodes Scholar and is on the ballot to be Maryland’s next governor.
PLEASE VOTE TODAY!
& help me make this her happiest birthday ever!
So
@BernieSanders
raised $4,000,000 from 330,000 donors in ONE day.
That’s > 2X the previous first day high.
At approximately $12 the average donation is < 1/2 the famous $27 dollar average donation from 2016.
Bernie is proving again you can go bigger w/ smaller donations.
I’ve struggled with a stutter my whole life. My parents raised me to never let it hold me back.
You usually “hear” it when I pause between words. Sometimes I just straight up stutter.
When it happens I know others notice... and I hope one of them is inspired to run one day!

When I am governor, we will finally pass universal pre-K in Maryland.
How will we pay for it?
By legalizing, regulating & taxing Cannabis for adult use.
This is not about me.
This is about us.
Our futures. Our families. Our lives.
The next governor will appoint 5 out of 7 judges to our state supreme court.
5 out of 7.
Given what’s happening
@SCOTUS
, we cannot afford to let the GOP pick our judges too.
Organize. Vote. Win!
To all my so called “Bernie Bros” of every color and gender:
Keep the faith.
We can win.
The hill may be steep, but like Bernie we are long distance runners and have climbed steeper hills before.
Future generations are counting on us.
Let’s go win!
Yes
@realdonaldtrump
I will make sure every child in Maryland can go to community college tuition free, regardless of immigration status.
Why?
My first ancestor immigrated in the 17th century & he didn’t have papers. His family even helped build a college: it’s called Harvard.
Friends: Yeah...But how would
@BernieSanders
have us pay for all that?
Me: Less war. Smaller prisons. Less corporate welfare. And Billionaires will pay their fair share too.
Thank you everyone who contributed their wisdom, sweat, dimes, and dollars to build and campaign that was truly of, by, and for the people.
Keep organizing. Keep building.
Even if it’s takes a little longer than we hoped, we will build a better future for all our families.
Right now, 33 states are pushing 165 bills meant to restrict voting access.
This should alarm us all.
If we do not act now, the cycle of disenfranchisement and disempowerment of the people will continue.
We need congress to pass the For the People Act.
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell says "there is no reason — none — why we should not deliver another major pandemic relief package" before the end of 2020
Raising a black boy is an emotional roller coaster.
Today my 8 year old son wrote 200 lines of code, read a 205 page book, and asked me why the police kill so many innocent black people.
The first two amazed me. The last one broke my heart.
Ignore the polls.
They were wrong in 2014.
They were wrong in 2016.
And then there’s the fact that we lost every poll in the primary.
And then we won by 10 points.
Keep pushing. We got this.
#WeVoteWeWin
Every American should read the New Jim Crow.
When I am governor any library in the state that does not have a copy— including those in our prisons— will receive one from me.
After all, my official endorsement of The New Jim Crow appears on the back of the first printing.
As a father, brother, and son, I look at the

fiasco and keep thinking:
How’d our nation let its daughters, sisters, and mothers be treated like this for so long?

The who has always protected Social Security.
The one who is against endless wars.

Things Americans say that you just don’t hear in most other Western nations:
—We are doing active shooter training at work

—He has to choose between paying his student loans and paying the rent
Let’s build a better future.
I fight for opportunity for all because I know how lives transform when we win.
My mom started out life in West Baltimore’s public housing projects.
A generation later I went to Oxford as a Rhodes Scholar.
How’d it happen? Unions, the NAACP & bold victories for working people.
This is my mom, Ann Todd Jealous.
She sued Baltimore’s Western H.S. For Girls when she was 12.
She desegregated it w/other black girls when she was 15.
That summer she went down south to help desegregate churches.
Here’s to badass moms like mine this

I remember the day I learned our house was part of the local battered women’s underground.
I was 8.
I opened the door.
I didn’t know her.
She’d been beaten her w/ a hot curling iron.
As mom rushed her to a safe house she said “this is why dad works to reform violent men”.
My friend and mentor Julian Bond would have been 77 today.
His friend, professor, and mentor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. would have been 89 tomorrow.
May their examples inspire each of us to live each day with purpose and always speak with courage.
I’m not running to the left.
I’m not running to the right.
I am running towards the people.
That’s why the nurses, the teachers and groups representing hundreds of thousands of working people across Maryland have endorsed my campaign.

I once asked the Pres. of Penn State:
What’s your greatest challenge?
He said:
It’s the same every year.
Every year I go up to the state capital...
To ask them to stop sending so much more money to the state penn...
So just a little more can come to Penn State.

On this holiday weekend created to celebrate unions, let us remember millions of American workers are working 6 and even 7 days week because they don’t have a union.
I’m endorsed by Maryland’s teachers and educators.
My opponent cut $68M from our public schools ... and then proposed spending $30M on a new youth prison.

I’ll never forget her help in closing that deal.
Too many young black & brown men die at the wrong end of a gun, typically homicide.
Too many old white men die at the wrong end of a gun, typically suicide.
As the son of an old white guy & the father of a young black guy, I am committed to building a better Maryland for all.
Folks, right now there are still well over 300 voter suppression bills in 47 states being considered.
Georgia was just the tip of the iceberg.
We need the Senate to pass the For the People Act.
If the federal government doesn’t pass Medicare for all, we will do it right here in Maryland.
I understand that getting the final federal waivers we need might require getting a new President in the
@WhiteHouse

That’s OK with me.
I’m fully committed to that too!
This morning at church a local public university president thanked the congregation for helping to take in “our growing population of homeless students”.
Think about that for a second.
The church is doing their part.
It’s time for us to do ours and make college affordable.
Afraid of changing the filibuster rules?
Allow me to give you 3 things to worry about more:
1. Dems losing the Senate in 2022 because of voter suppression.
2. Dems losing the Senate in 2022 because they fail to get anything big done.
3. The GOP then ending the filibuster.
